FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions.

What is the ozone concentration?

It varies depending on the power setting and mineral content of the water. That’s why it won’t produce ozone with distilled water.

The ozone generator produces an electric field that ionizes minerals in the water. Some minerals ionize more easily than others. The ozone concentration is proportional to both the types and concentrations of the minerals in the water.

The concentration also varies with the water pressure. It will be highest at the lowest water pressure (Settings #1-3). Depending on the water’s minerals and concentrations, it will be somewhere between 0.5–1.0 ppm. (parts per million).  As the water pressure increases, the additional water dilutes the ozone. At the highest pressure (Setting #10), the ozone concentration could be as low as 0.05 ppm.

Bacteria die when the ozone concentration is ³ 0.1 ppm.
At 0.5-1.0 ppm, the ozone concentration is 5-10 times higher than needed to kill bacteria. We recommend using a higher setting (#5-10) first to clean the teeth with a powerful water stream. Then use a lower setting (#1-5) to ozonate the teeth and gums.

“Why don’t I smell ozone anymore?”
“I could smell ozone the first few weeks, but no longer.”

Don’t worry. The ozone generator is still working. It’s common for the ozone levels to be somewhat higher than usual during the first few weeks of use. During normal use, there’s very little smell because the ozone is dissolved in the water. It can’t escape as a gas one can smell until the concentration reaches 1.5 ppm (outgas threshold). The maximum Viajet Ozone concentration is 1.0 ppm.

Over time, ionized minerals in the water will gradually accumulate on the electrodes, reducing their efficiency. After 200-300 uses, we recommend a vinegar maintenance cycle to restore the electrodes to full efficiency.

Ozone Generator Maintenance – Every 200-300 uses or 2-4 months.

  1. Add 1 cup of household vinegar to the reservoir.
  2. Place the handle in the reservoir so the vinegar recirculates back to the reservoir.
  3. Turn on the unit. Use full power (Setting #10).
  4. Let it run for 3 minutes.
  5. Turn it off to let the motor cool for 3 minutes.
  6. Then, run it again for 3 minutes.
